A Special Thanksgiving Treat
So…I didn’t post much last week because…well, Brian took most of the week off and we spent a lot of time doing family stuff and getting ready for Thanksgiving. He was gone the entire week before in California, then I had a (super fun) night away with the girls so it was nice to be together for a good chunk of days (and a treat because he usually takes lots of time off around Christmas, but not Thanksgiving). I think there was one point around Wednesday where the boys literally did not take their pajamas off for the entire day…and they may have just gone back to bed in them that night (what!? we were cooking for the next day – ha). Brian was super productive around the house, fixed some broken stuff, winterized the back yard and cleaned out the garage. We hosted his family here for Thanksgiving and went to see a Christmas parade the next day. This week I’m busy busy working on Brady’s upcoming birthday party…more on that later.
For now, here are some pics from last week:
Brian let our turkey brine overnight in apple cider. Here is a picture of the boys watching daddy take out “Turkey Wurkey”. There is a funny video at the end of this post as well.
Look Ma (and Grams), I used the good china, crystal and silver. Oh and Denna, I used the napkin holders that you knitted out of wire – so cool!
While Brian and I got all the final prep done on dinner, Memaw had the boys make turkeys out of apples, various candies and toothpicks.
The finished products. Brady’s wasn’t quite looking turkey-like. He was much too busy eating the candy I think.
And here is your traditional “hand print turkey” that Logan made at school. He kept saying he had a surprise for dinner in his backpack. After we sat down, I saw him leave the little kids table, then come back with a piece of paper in his hands. He put it on his chair and sat on it. We got him to take it out and then passed it around the table. The only problem was that he wanted to pick someone to take the drawing. Mr. Indecision was mighty confused…he kept wandering around the table trying to chose someone. Fearing he was never going to actually sit and eat, I ended up suggesting that we make color copies. So we did…and everyone took one home. I kept the original of course.
Friday afternoon, we headed to a near-by Christmas parade. It was a rather chilly day and only 2 families from the neighborhood decided to brave the weather. Here are the kids crossing over the river towards the downtown area (they light up all the trees at the end of the parade which is the coolest)
Brady was wearing dog puppets instead of gloves (more on those puppets in another post!)
The kid crew! As soon as we arrived, the daddies set off to get hot chocolate. The line was so insane that they were gone for at least 1/2 an hour or more. Brady was having a hard time standing the chill…plus he had to pee pee. I think he and I saw about 5 minutes of the actual parade (while we drank hot chocolate) before we headed to a cute bookstore down the street to wait it out. We were planning to stay in the area for dinner, but it was too crowded. We ended up getting a pizza on the way home and eating it while the kids played and watched Toy Story 3.
I think this video is hilarious…especially Logan’s question and his corresponding “chop off the head” hand gesture. I’m not sure what Aiden’s question is all about, but I think he is talking about raising turkeys on a farm. Brady says nothing, but looks confused and disgusted. I stopped the video as Brian started removing weird stuff from inside the bird. The thing he pulled out right before the end was the neck (gag).
About Me
- Renay
- Stories about BRLAB: Brian & Renay, two relatively sane parents, and our three adorable, but active boys: Logan - 9, Aiden - 7 and Brady - 6. I started this blog to document our adventures and milestones for those family members who are far away and can't always share the fun in person. This blog has become my way to keep track of everything in the lives of my growing boys - from the super big stuff that seems the most important to the small things that probably really ARE the most important. I always include tons of pictures because I plan to make a book out of the blog on a yearly basis. Time flies by so fast, I can only hope that these posts will help us remember all the wonderful and silly times we have together as a family.

Your table was gorgeous!! Nice job with the whole thing - china, silver, AND crystal. WOW!
Love the video of the turkey. Hilarious! Looked like Thanksgiving was very fun and the parade on Friday sounds like such fun. Too bad it was so freezing!
I have to tell you - I was thinking of you guys going to the parade in the freezing cold and wondered if you would have a picture of Aiden that looked like the one of Denay that year we went to NYC - remember standing in front of the Rockefeller ice rink?
Enjoyable read! I love Aiden's face when something pops out of the turkey near him!
